Are colleges failing to educate our youth?

leave a comment »

The US college industrial complex has hoodwinked millions into taking on debt for “educations” that often times are worthless or could have been learned for free or much cheaper via the internet or through internships (except now those are outlawed in the US, of course). While every person has to find their own way and make their own decisions, if you find that no matter how hard you try that you cannot find gainful employment and/or an opportunity to start a small business, then I suggest you look to move to somewhere where that is possible.

The youth of America are lining up to look for greener pastures other than the U.S.

If you are young and live in the West and have crippling student loan debt and no decent prospects for employment or to even start a business as the fascist system has made it too costly to even start a lemonade stand (John Stossel figured out the time, licenses, inspections and steps needed to open a lemonade stand to be 65 days in the USA today) then you really have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Most of the rest of the world is much more free and amenable to entrepreneurs than anywhere in the West.  Only have $300 in your pocket and are young and want to live free and do something with your life?  Go to Cambodia.  Talk a tanker or commercial ship into taking you across to Asia in return for labor work aboard.  Get to Phnom Penh.  Stay at a $5/day (or less) hostel.   Ask them if you can do work in return for your accommodations. Talk to some of TDV’s on-the-ground people in Cambodia, not least of which is Col McLaurin, who wrote up Cambodia in the January issue of TDV.  He can give you the lay of the land so you can see some of the opportunities.  Then start hustling.  Practically everything is legal there.  It is almost completely free.  You can even stay as long as you want for next-to-nothing by just renewing your visa every year for a small fee, or just don’t bother.  No one checks those sorts of things.  There is no SWAT team-like Department of Homeland Security or Immigration spying on you and threatening to kidnap you for the crime of not asking for their permission to work or live there.

A Loss of Credibility

Once at a social gathering, Gladstone said to Disraeli:

“I predict, Sir; that you will die either by hanging or of some vile disease“.

Disraeli replied,

That all depends, sir, upon whether I embrace your principles or your mistress.”

From zero hedge:  We have reached a point where the shepherd has shouted “wolf” one too many times, where the theatre goer has shouted “fire” one too many times and the crowd no longer believes the jargon and is standing pat. From one politician to the next in Europe the words are strikingly the same; “bold actions, courageous decisions, decisive plans” which are meant to stoke the propaganda machine and assure the world that all is well. We have had the bank stress tests; the first pockmarked by inaccurate data checked by no one and the second humiliated by an inaccurate construct which discredited it by its own shameless manipulation. We face a world where contingent liabilities, promises to pay and guarantees of debts are NOT counted and where asset guarantees, illusionary firewalls and unfunded rescue programs ARE counted and in some cases counted more than once. Europe has, in fact, provided a complex system of hoaxes, inaccurate data and false financial reports that have been for the most part believed but that belief system is now crumbling as every quarter presents new data that proves the inaccuracy of what we have been told.  What will be the “cry” in the crowded theater next time?

Three 2012 Events You Need to be Watching

leave a comment »

Here are 3 major events that everyone should have on their minds when considering purchasing physical gold and mining shares.

  1. As the Greek exit is drawing closer, gold is responding the way it should, as the only true safe haven. As the European crisis worsened, last Friday the Dow was down 2.22%, gold was up 4.05%, and the HUI (gold index) was up 6.75%.
  2. June 19-20th the Federal Reserve (FED) will be meeting. It is likely that the FED will announce more quantitative easing (QE) around this meeting, any later will put the banks at risk and further depress asset prices before the election, something we don’t think the FED sees as an option.
  3. The debt ceiling will be breached sometime in the fall of 2012, the debate to raise it again should be very political around election time and could result in another downgrade for the U.S.
